WEAVED FUR SIDE BORDER



This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely co-incidental. Please do not pull it apart and claim it as your own. Tools needed to complete this tutorial:

Paint Shop Pro V9

FM Tile Tools

A graphic of your choice.

The graphic I have used is from the Metal and Magic Website. It is used with permission.



  1. Open your graphic and resize so that it’s no wider than 350 pixels.

  2. Shift + D twice, minimize one of the copies for now and close the original.

  3. In your layer palette, right click and promote background layer.

  4. Chose your selection tool, custom selection and use the following settings:-

    • Top:       0
    • Left:       25
    • Right:       50
    • Bottom:       Total length of your graphic.

  5. Effects, Texture Effects, Weave and use the following settings:-

    • Gap Size:       5
    • Width:       5
    • Opacity:       75
    • Weave color:       Black
    • Fill gaps:        Unchecked

  6. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical:       0
    • Horizontal:       4
    • Opacity:       45
    • Blur:       5
    • Color:       Black

  7. Repeat the drop shadow, changing your horizontal to – 4 (minus).

  8. Deselect.

  9. Click on your selection tool again, custom selection and use the following settings:-

    • Top:       0
    • Left:       300
    • Right:       350
    • Bottom:       Total length of your graphic.

  10. Effects, Texture Effects, Fur and use the following settings:-

    • Blur:       25
    • Density;       90
    • Length:       11
    • Transparency:       44

  11. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shad and use the same settings as before.

  12. Deselect.

  13. Image, Canvas size and use the following settings:-

    • Width:       1024
    • Height:       Total height of your graphic
    • Placement:       Left middle arrow.

  14. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and use the same settings as before but change your Horizontal to 8.

  15. Add a new layer and drag it to the bottom of your layer palette.

  16. Selections, select all.

  17. Click on the graphic that we minimized earlier and edit copy.

  18. Back to our main image.

  19. Edit, paste into selection.

  20. Effects, Texture Effects, Fur and use the same settings as before.

  21. Deselect.

  22. Effects, Image Effects, Seamless Tiling and use the following settings:-

    • Corner checked.
    • Bidirectional checked
    • Curved checked.

  23. Lower the opacity of this layer to around 50%.

  24. Back to our minimized graphic.

  25. Click on your selection tool, and set it to ellipse with a feather of 25.

  26. Pick an object from the graphic that you would like to use and draw your ellipse out around it.

  27. Edit, copy.

  28. You can now close this graphic down.

  29. Back to our main graphic.

  30. Edit, paste as a new layer.

  31. Drag this layer to the top of your layer palette and using your mover tool, move it over to the left so that it covers a little of the right side of our main graphic.

  32. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical & Horizontal:       1
    • Opacity:       45
    • Blur:       1
    • Color:       Black
    • Shadow on new layer:       Unchecked.

  33. Lower the opacity of this layer to around 50%.

  34. Add a new layer for your watermark and then merge all flatten.

  35. Effects, Plugins, FM Tile Tools, Seamless Tile and use the following settings:-

    • Border Width:       0.102
    • Stretch Control:       0.:090
    • Vertical:       Checked.

  36. You can now put it all together in Letter Creator, a product of IncrediMail.
