TWIRL & SPIN FRAME




This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely co-incidental. Please do not pull it apart and claim it as your own. Tools needed to complete this tutorial:

Paint Shop Pro V9

Graphic of your choice.

The graphic used for this tutorial was used with permission from the very talented Barbara Haviland.

The mask that I used.

If you have everything you need, lets begin.

    FRAME

  1. Open your graphic in PSP

  2. Resize if necessary. Shift + D twice to duplicate. Close the original and minimize one of your copies for later use.

  3. With the image on show, right click in your layer palette and duplicate.

  4. Image, resize and resize by 90%, all layers Unchecked.

  5. In your layer palette rename this layer 2.

  6. Right click and duplicate layer 2.

  7. Image, resize and resize by 90%, all layers Unchecked.

  8. In your layer palette rename this layer 3

  9. Duplicate this layer and resize by 90%, all layers Unchecked.

  10. Rename this layer 4.

  11. Close the top three layers by clicking on the eye beside them.

  12. Make sure the bottom layer is the active layer by clicking on it.

  13. Adjust, Blur, Radial blur and use the following settings:-

    • Blur type:      Twirl
    • Strength:      25
    • Twirl Degrees:      20
    • Elliptical:      Unchecked
    • Horizontal, Vertical and Protect center:      0

  14. Open 2 by clicking on the eyes and make sure it’s the active layer.

  15. Adjust, Blur, Radial blur and use the following settings:-

    • Blur type:      Spin
    • Strength:      25
    • Elliptical checked.
      Horizontal, Vertical and protect center:      10

  16. Open 3 by clicking on the eye and make sure it’s the active layer.

  17. Effects, Distortion Effects, Pixelate and use the following settings:-

    • Block width & height:      10
    • Symmetric:      Unchecked.

  18. Adjust, Blur, Gaussian blur and use a setting of 4.

  19. Open 4 by clicking on the eye beside it and make sure it’s the active layer.

  20. Layers, Load/Save mask, load mask from disk and find the beryl0039 mask, making sure that Fit to Layer and Invert Transparency is checked.

  21. Layers, merge group.

  22. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and apply the following settings:-

    • Horizontal & Vertical:      15
    • Opacity:      45
    • Blur:      10
    • Shadow on new layer:      Unchecked.

  23. Repeat drop shadow changing your horizontal and vertical to –15 (minus).

  24. Merge all flatten.

  25. Selections, select all. Selections, modify, contract by 15.

  26. Selections, invert.

  27. Effects, Distortion effects, Pixelate and use the same settings as before.

  28. Effects, 3D Effects, Outer Bevel and use the following settings:-

    • Bevel:      1
    • Width:      15
    • Smoothness:      0
    • Depth:      2
    • Ambience:      0
    • Shininess:      15
    • Color:      White
    • Angle:      315
    • Intensity:      50
    • Elevation:      40

  29. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical & Horizontal:      3
    • Opacity:      65
    • Blur:      10
    • Color:      Black

  30. Repeat drop shadow changing your vertical and horizontal to –3 (minus)

  31. Deselect.

  32. Add a new layer for your watermark. Merge all flatten.

  33. Save as a jpeg.

    BACKGROUND

  34. Open your minized graphic.

  35. Adjust, Blur, Gaussian blur and use a setting of 25.

  36. Effects, Distortion Effects, Warp and use the following settings:-

    • Horizontal:      25
    • Vertical:      10
    • Size;      50
    • Strength:      50

  37. Effects, Image effects, Seamless tiling and use the following settings:-

    • Corner checked
    • Bidirectional checked
    • Transition:      100
    • Linear checked.

  38. Lower the opacity to a level that you like.

  39. Merge all, flatten.

  40. Adjust, Sharpness, sharpen more.

  41. Save as your background.

  42. You are now ready to put it all together.
