TWICE SHADOW SIDE BORDER

Tools needed for this tutorial:

Paint Shop Pro V9

A graphic of your choice.

The graphic used in this tutorial is copyright © Metal & Magic and is used with permission.

. Graphics that are much longer than they are wide will work best with this tutorial.

The mask I used which you can download by HERE.

FM Tile Tools (optional)

If you have everything you need, let's begin.


  1. Open your graphic.

  2. Resize so that it’s no wider than 350 pixels.

  3. Shift + D to duplicate and minimize the duplicated graphic.

  4. In your layer palette, right click and promote background layer.

  5. Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load mask from disk.

  6. Using the drop down menu find the mask you downloaded at the beginning of the tutorial, tiedcorners_small, Source luminance, Fit to canvas and Invert transparency and hide all mask checked.

  7. Layers, merge group.

  8. Image, Resize and resize by 85%, all layers Unchecked.

  9. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical:      1
    • Horizontal:      8
    • Opacity:      65
    • Blur:      15
    • Color:      Black
    • Shadow on new layer:      Unchecked.

  10. Image, canvas size and use the following settings:-

    • Width:      1024
    • Height:      Total height of your graphic
    • Placement:      Left middle arrow.

  11. Using your mover tool, move your masked image upwards and over slightly to the left.

  12. In your layer palette duplicate this layer.

  13. Using your mover tool, move the duplicated layer down slightly and a little over towards the right.

  14. Maximize your duplicated image.

  15. Click on your selection tool with the following settings:-

    • Selection type:      Ellipse
    • Mode:      Replace
    • Feather:      15
    • Anti-alias:      Checked

  16. Draw an ellipse out across apart of the graphic that you would like to use.

  17. Selections, modify, feather and use a setting of 20.

  18. Edit, copy.

  19. Hit the back button twice and minimize for now.

  20. Edit, paste as new layer onto our masked image.

  21. Using your mover tool place it where you would like it to be.

  22. In your layer palette, lower the opacity of this layer to around 35%.

  23. In your layer palette, duplicate this layer.

  24. Image, mirror.

  25. Using your mover tool, move the duplicated layer over to the left of your main masked image.

  26. In your layer palette, close the bottom two layers. Making sure one of the top two layers is the active layer, merge visible.

  27. Duplicate the merged layer.

  28. Image, mirror.

  29. Open all layers in your layer palette.

  30. Add a new raster layer and drag it to the bottom.

  31. Selections, select all.

  32. Maximize your duplicate graphic. Edit, copy. You can now close this image off.

  33. Edit, paste into selection.

  34. Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur and use a setting 20.

  35. Adjust, Add/Remove Noise, Add Noise and add a noise value of 10%, Gaussian and monochrome checked.

  36. Deselect.

  37. Lower the opacity of this layer to around 50% depending on the darkness and colours in your graphic.

  38. Add a new raster layer for your watermark. Layers, arrange, bring to top.

  39. Merge all, flatten.

  40. Effects, Plugins, FM Tile Tools, Seamless tiling and use the following settings:-

    • Border Width:      0.137
    • Stretch Control:      0.090
    • Vertical:      Checked.

    You can now put it altogether in Letter Creator. A program that comes with IncrediMail.
