ROAD BASE FRAME & BACKGROUND

This tutorial is my own creation. Please do not pull it apart and claim it as your own. Do not copy, translate or place on another site without my written permission. You may use this tutorial in a group setting, but please link only to this page.


Tools needed to complete this tutorial:-

Paint Shop Pro V9

A Graphic of your choice.
One sized roughly 250 x 350 will work best.

Toadies – Blast ‘Em


FRAME


  1. Open your graphic and if not sized closely to above, resize.

  2. Windows, duplicate and minimize the duplicate for later use.

  3. Using your eye dropper, chose a dark background colour, and a light foreground colour from your graphic.

  4. Edit, Copy.

  5. Image, Add Border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  6. Selections, select all.

  7. Selections, modify, contract by 2.

  8. Selections, invert.

  9. Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical & Horizontal:  :    2
    • Opacity:  :    75
    • Blur:  :    10
    • Color:  :    Black

  10. Repeat the drop shadow changing your vertical & horizontal to –2 (minus)

  11. Deselect.

  12. Image, Add Border and add a 4 pixel white border.

  13. Select the border with your magic wand. Edit, paste into selection.

  14. Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur and use a setting of 10.

  15. Deselect.

  16. Image, Add Border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  17. Image, Add Border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  18. Image, Add Border and add a 6 pixel white border.

  19. Select the border with your magic wand.

  20. Edit, paste into selection.

  21. Deselect.

  22. Image, Add border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  23. Selections, select all.

  24. Selections, modify, contract by 2.

  25. Selections, invert.

  26. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and use the drop shadow settings used earlier.

  27. Image, Add Border and add a 4 pixel white border.

  28. Select the border with your magic wand.

  29. Edit, paste into selection.

  30. Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur and use a setting of 10.

  31. Deselect.

  32. Image, Add border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  33. Image, Add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  34. Image, Add border and add a 10 pixel white border.

  35. Select the border with your magic wand.

  36. Edit, paste into selection.

  37. Effects, Texture Effects, Mosaic – Antique and use the following settings:-

    • Number of columns:  :    68
    • Number of rows:  :    68

    • Symmetric:  :    Checked

    • Tile diffusion:  :    58
    • Grout Width:  :    2
    • Grout diffusion:  :    53

  38. Effects, 3D Effects, Inner Bevel and use the following settings:-

    • Pie Bevel:
      Width:  :    4
    • Smoothness:  :    0
    • Depth:  :    2
    • Ambience:  :    0
    • Shininess:  :    2
    • Color:  :    White
    • Angle:  :    315
    • Intensity:  :    60
    • Elevation:  :    25

  39. Deselect.

  40. Image, Add Border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  41. Selections, select all.

  42. Selections, modify, contract by 2.

  43. Selections, invert.

  44. Effects, Drop Shadow and use the same settings used earlier.

  45. Image, Add Border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  46. Image, Add Border and add a 4 pixel white border.

  47. Select the border with your magic wand. Edit, paste into selection.

  48. Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur and use a setting of 10.

  49. Deselect.

  50. Image, Add Border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  51. Selections, select all.

  52. Selections, modify, contract by 2.

  53. Selections, invert.

  54. Effects, Drop Shadow and use the same settings used earlier.

  55. Image, resize and resize by 85%.

  56. Adjust, Sharpness, Sharpen.

  57. In your layer palette, right click and promote background layer.

  58. Image, Canvas Size and use the following settings:-

    • Width:  :    1054
    • Height:  :    Height of your graphic + 30 pixels.
    • Placement:  :    Left middle arrow.

  59. Using your mover tool, move the graphic away slightly from the edge.

  60. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical & Horizontal:  :    2
    • Opacity:  :    75
    • Blur:  :    10
    • Color:  :    Black

  61. Add a new layer and drag this to the bottom of your layer palette.


    BACKGROUND


  62. Change your foreground to Pattern and using the drop down list, find the duplicated image and use the following settings:-

    • Angle:  :    45
    • Scale:  :    35

  63. Effects, Plugins, Toadies, Blast ‘Em and use a setting of 14.

  64. Lower the opacity of this layer to one suitable to read text.

  65. Effects, Image Effects, Seamless tiling and use the following settings:-

    • Mirror Checked.
    • Bidirectional Checked.
    • Horizontal offset:  :    1
    • Vertical offset:  :    -1 (minus)
    • Width:  :    50

  66. Add a new raster layer.

  67. Using your selection tool, draw a rectangle shape out starting at 50,50 and finishing at 900, 300.

  68. Flood fill with your foreground colour.

  69. Add a new layer and flood fill with your background colour.

  70. Set your blend mode to Dissolve and lower the opacity to about 50%.

  71. Close all layers except the middle two.

  72. Merge visible.

  73. Lower the opacity to 50%.

  74. Selections, Modify, Feather and set a feather of 30.

  75. Selections, Invert.

  76. Hit the delete key on your keyboard.

  77. Deselect.

  78. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and apply the drop shadow from above.

  79. Deselect.

  80. Add a new layer for your watermark.

  81. Merge all flatten.
