Tools needed for this tutorial.

Paint Shop Pro

The zip file containing the fonts used.

A tube of your choice.

Here are a couple of really good tube sites.

No outside filters are used in this tutorial.

If you have everything you need, lets get started.

  1. Open your tube and with your dropper tool select a dark colour for the foreground
    and a light colour for the background.

  2. Open a 500 x 500 transparent image.

  3. Click on your text tool, and find the ap_fancynavs font. Create as Vector, Size 200, Stroke width 3,
    antialias checked.

  4. Type the lower case e.

  5. Objects, align, Center in canvas.

  6. Right click on the vector layer in your layer palette and convert to raster layer.

  7. Using your magic wand, hold down the shift key, and select the colour that is shown the most.
    Should be the lightest colour.

  8. Effects, 3D Effects, inner bevel and use the following settings:-

    • Bevel:    Pie
    • Width:    8
    • Smoothness:    15
    • Depth:     4
    • Ambience:    0
    • Shininess:    0
    • Color:    The same as the colour in the graphic.
    • Angle:    251
    • Intensity:    45
    • Elevation:    35

  9. Selections, select none.

  10. Using your magic wand again, this time select the outside border of the graphic.
    The darker colour, and apply the same inner bevel.

  11. Copy your tube and paste as a new layer onto the 500 x 500 graphic. Resize if necessary.

  12. Name this layer tube.

  13. Place it to the right of your ding font overlapping the last hanging diamond.

  14. Duplicate this layer.

  15. Close all layers except the copy of tube layer. Make sure you are on the copy of tube layer – it will
    be highlighted.

  16. Selections, select all.

  17. Selections, float.

  18. Selections, defloat.

  19. Effects, Distortion Effects, Ripple and use the following settings:-

    • Horizontal & Vertical:    50.00
    • Amplitude:    15.00
    • Wavelength    20.00
    • Edge mode:    Transparent

  20. Deselect.

  21. Lower the opacity of this layer to around 65%.

  22. With your mover tool, move this slightly to the right and up a little.

  23. Layers, arrange, move down. You can now open all other layers.

  24. Reverse your foreground and background colours.

  25. Click on your text tool.

  26. I’ve used PerryGothic Regular, Vector, size 72, stroke 1.0, antialias checked.

  27. Type in the text that you want.

  28. While it is still a vector place it the where you want it., then right click on the vector layer
    and convert to raster layer. Name this layer text.

  29. Activate the ding font layer…….(should be raster 2).

  30. Selections, select all.

  31. Selections, float.

  32. Selections, defloat.

  33. Now active the text layer.

  34. Click on the eraser tool. I used the following settings:-

    • Size:    10
    • Hardness:    50
    • Step:    25
    • Density:    100
    • Thickness:    100
    • Rotation:    0
    • Opacity:    100

  35. Erase the letters that are covering the hanging diamonds of the ding font.

  36. Selections, select none.

  37. Duplicate this layer and close all layers except the copy of text layer.

  38. Effects, Distortion Effects, Ripple and use the same settings as before.
    Do not have the text selected though………….eg. Do not go to selections, select all etc.

  39. Move this upwards and to the right a little. Set the opacity for this layer to 50%.
    Layers, arrange, send to bottom.

  40. You can now open all layers.

  41. Make the text layer the active layer.

  42. Effects, 3D effects, Inner bevel and use the same settings as before.

  43. Layers, merge visible.

  44. Edit copy. Edit paste as a new image to get rid of the excessive transparent image.

  45. Click on your selection tool. Set as circle, Feather 0, anti-alias checked, chose a small portion of your
    tube………..we are going to put this in the round transparent area of the ding font.

  46. Edit, copy.

  47. Selections, selection none.

  48. With your magic wand, click inside the circle of the ding font as shown:-

  49. Selections, modify, expand by 2.

  50. Layers, new raster layer.

  51. Edit, paste into selection.

  52. Layers, Arrange, Send to bottom.

  53. Selections, select none.

  54. Merge visible.

  55. Resize to a size that you like your signature tags to be. I chose a height of 300.

  56. Merge all, flatten.
