A graphic of your choice.
The graphic I have used in this tutorial is used with permission from Johanna Pieterman who has kindly allowed me to use her wonderful artwork in for my tutorials.

Ok, if you have everything you need, let’s begin.

  1. Open your graphic and resize so that it is no longer than 350 pixels. Graphics that are much wider than length are best for this tutorial.

  2. Shift + D twice to duplicate. Close the original, and minimize one of the copies for now.

    BACKGROUND

  3. Effects, Plugins, Neology, Refractor and use the following settings:-

    • Horizontal Refraction:      74
    • Vertical Refraction:      19

  4. Effects, Plugins, Neology, Sinus waves and use the following settings:-

    • Horizontal cycle:      7
    • Vertical Cycle:      141
    • Horizontal amplitude:      11
    • Vertical amplitude:      18

  5. Effects, Plugins, Neology, Refractor and use the same settings as before.

  6. Minimize your background image for now, and open the 2nd copy of your graphic.

    FRAMING

  7. With your eye dropper chose a solid colour from your graphic for the foregound.

  8. In your colour palette, change your foreground to pattern, and pick the graphic you are now working on as the pattern, and change your background to the background pattern that we made earlier.

  9. Image, add border, and add a 2 pixel black border, or darker colour if black is on the outside of your graphic.

  10. Select the border with your magic wand.

  11. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical & Horizontal:      4
    • Opacity:       55
    • Blur:      8
    • Color:      Black

  12. Repeat the drop shadow changing the V & H to –4 (minus)

  13. Deselect.

  14. Image, add border and add a 5 pixel white border.

  15. Select the border with your magic wand and flood fill with the foreground pattern.

  16. Deselect.

  17. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  18. Select the border with your magic wand and repeat the two drop shadows that we used earlier.

  19. Deselect.

  20. Image, add border and add a 10 pixel white border.

  21. Select the border with your magic wand and flood fill with your background pattern.

  22. Effects, 3D Effects, Outer Bevel and use the following settings:-

    • Bevel 1
    • Width:      8
    • Smoothness:      4
    • Depth:      1
    • Ambience:      0
    • Shininess:      10
    • Color:      White
    • Angle:      315
    • Intensity:      40
    • Elevation:      40

  23. Deselect.

  24. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel black border.

  25. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  26. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel black border.

  27. Selections, select all.

  28. Selections, modify, contract by 6.

  29. Selections, invert.

  30. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the same settings as before.

  31. Deselect.

  32. Image, add border and add a 15 pixel white border.

  33. Select the border with your magic wand and flood fill with your foreground pattern.

  34. Deselect.

  35. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel black border.

  36. Select the border with your magic wand, and again repeat the 2 drops shadows that we’ve used previously.

  37. Deselect.

  38. Image, add border and add a 5 pixel white border.

  39. Select the border with your magic wand and flood fill with your foreground pattern.

  40. Deselect.

  41. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  42. Image, add border and add a 20 pixel white border.

  43. Select the border with your magic wand.

  44. Flood fill with your background pattern.

  45. Effects, 3D Effects, Outer Bevel and apply the same settings as before.

  46. Deselect.

  47. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel black border.

  48. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  49. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel black border.

  50. Selections, select all.

  51. Selections, modify, contract by 6.

  52. Selections, invert.

  53. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and again apply the same settings as previously used.

  54. Deselect.

  55. Add a new layer for you watermark.

  56. Merge all, flatten. Resize if necessary. Save as a jpeg.

  57. You can now close this framed graphic down.

  58. Reopen the background image.

  59. Effects, Plugins, FM Tile Tools, Seamless tile and use the following settings:-

    • Border Width:      0.203
    • Stretch Control:      0.168
    • Vertical:       Checked

  60. Effects, Plugins, FM Tile Tools, Seamless tile and use the same settings, but this time Uncheck vertical.

    You can now save this as your background. Depending on the colours in your graphic, you may need to lower the opacity so that text is easily read over it.
