PENCIL BRUSH FRAME




This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely co-incidental. Please do not copy, translate or place on another site. You are more than welcome to use this tutorial in a group setting, but please link to this page only.

Tools needed to complete this tutorial:-

Paint Shop Pro Version 9

A graphic of your choice.

The graphic I have used for this tutorial is used with permission from NeonDragonArt

20/20
Optional for background…….tutorial not included.

  1. Open your graphic in PSP. Graphics that are bigger in width than length are best for this tutorial.

  2. Resize so that it’s no longer than 350 pixels in length.

  3. Shift + D to duplicate and close the original.

  4. In your layer palette, right click and promote background.

  5. Again, right click and duplicate two times. You now have three layers.

  6. Close the top two layers by clicking on the eye beside them and make sure the bottom layer is the active layer.

  7. Effects, Art Media Effects, Pencil and use the following settings:-

    • Luminance:      0
    • Blur:      80
    • Color:      #EDF1C5
    • Intensity:      90

  8. Click on the eye beside layer 2 to open it and make sure it’s the active layer.

  9. Image, resize and resize by 90%, all layers Unchecked.

  10. Effects, Art Media Effects, Brush Strokes and use the following settings:-

    • Softness:      20
    • Bristles:      160
    • Width:      5
    • Opacity:      50
    • Length:      10
    • Density:      25
    • Angle:      102
    • Color:      #505050

  11. Edit copy.

  12. Click on the eye beside layer 3 to open it and make sure it’s the active layer.

  13. Image, resize and resize by 75%, all layers Unchecked.

  14. Effects 3D Effects, Inner Bevel and use the following settings:-

    • Bevel:      #6
    • Width:      8
    • Smoothness:      35
    • Depth:      4
    • Ambience:      2
    • Shininess:      37
    • Color:      White
    • Angle:      315
    • Intensity;      30
    • Elevation;      50

  15. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical & Horizontal:      -2
    • Opacity:      65
    • Blur:      15
    • Color:      Black
    • Shadow on new layer:      Unchecked.

  16. Highlight layer 2 in your layer palette.

  17. Edit, repeat drop shadow.

  18. Merge all, flatten.

  19. Image, add border and use the following settings:-

    • Symmetric:      Unchecked

    • Top & Bottom:      0
    • Left & Right:      35
    • Color:      White.

  20. Using your magic wand and holding down your shift key, select both white borders.

  21. Edit, paste into selection.

  22. Effects, 3D Effects, Inner bevel and use the same settings as before.

  23. Image, add border and this time make sure that symmetric is checked. Add a 5 pixel border using a dark colour from your graphic..

  24. Select the border with your magic wand.

  25. Repeat the inner bevel.

  26. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and use the same settings as before.

  27. Repeat the drop shadow, but change the Vertical and Horizontal to +2.

  28. Add a new layer for your watermark. Layers, arrange, bring to top.

  29. Merge all, flatten.
