PENCIL DRAWING
This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely co-incidental. Please do not copy, translate or place on any other site. You are more than welcome to use this tutorial in a group setting, but please link to this page only.
Tools needed to complete this tutorial:
Paint Shop Pro V 9
A graphic of your choice.
The graphic I’ve used for this tutorial is used with permission from and is copyright to the very talented Sharon George.
A mask of your choice.
If you have everything you need, let's begin.
- Open your graphic and resize so that it’s no wider than 350 pixels.
Note: Graphics that are bigger in length than they are in width will work best with this tutorial.
- Shift + D twice to duplicate your image. Close the original.
- Edit, copy.
- In your layer palette, promote background layer.
- In your layer palette duplicate your layer twice so you have three layers.
- Close the top two layers by clicking on the eye beside them, and make sure the bottom layer is the active layer.
- Effects, Art Media Effects, Charcoal and use the following settings:-
- Open copy of raster and make sure it’s the active layer.
- Effects, Art Media Effects, Colored chalk and use the following settings:-
- Lower the opacity of this layer to around 54%
- Highlight and open the top layer.
- Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load mask from disk and using the drop down menu, find the mask that you’d like to use.
- Layers, Merge group.
- Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-
- Vertical 2
- Horizontal: 6
- Opacity: 65
- Blur: 4
- Color: Chose a dark colour from your graphic
- Shadow on new layer: Unchecked
- Merge visible.
- Image, canvas size and use the following settings:-
- Width: 1024
- Height: Original height of your graphic plus 20
- Placement: Left middle arrow.
- Using your mover tool, move your masked graphic away from the left side just a little.
- Repeat the drop shadow but change your horizontal to 8.
- Repeat again but this time change your vertical & horizontal to –2 and –6 respectively.
- Add a new raster layer and drag it to the bottom of your layer palette.
- Selections, select all.
- Edit, paste into selection.
- Deselect.
- Duplicate this layer.
- Highlight the bottom layer and repeat the charcoal settings.
- Highlight the duplicated layer and repeat the colored chalk settings.
- Lower the opacity of this layer to around 48%.
- Close the top layer by clicking on the eye beside it.
- Making sure one of the background layers is the active layer, merge visible.
- Effects, Distortion Effects, Wind and use the following settings:-
- From Right: Checked
- Wind strength: 100
- Effects, Image Effects, Seamless Tiling and use the following settings:-
- Mirror checked
- Bidirectional checked.
- Add a new layer for your watermark.
- Merge all, flatten.
You can now take it Letter Creator, a program that comes with IncrediMail.
