Paint Shop Pro Version 9

A graphic of your choice
The graphic used for this tutorial is used with permission from the very talented Barbara Haviland.


FRAME

  1. Open your graphic and resize so that it’s no longer than 350 pixels.

  2. Window, duplicate and minimize for now.

  3. Edit, copy.

  4. Using your eyedropper select a foreground and background colour from your graphic.

  5. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  6. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  7. Image, add border and add a 15 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  8. Using your magic wand, select the 15 pixel border.

  9. Edit, paste into selection.

  10. Effects, Art Media Effects, Pencil and use the following settings:-

    • Luminance:      -159 (minus)
    • Blur:      22
    • Color:      The lighter of the two you chose.
    • Intensity:      55

  11. Deselect.

  12. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  13. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  14. Image, add border and add a 15 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  15. Using your magic wand, select the 15 pixel border.

  16. Edit, paste into selection.

  17. Effects, Reflection Effects, Pattern and use the following settings:-

      IMAGE AREA

    • Horizontal offset:      86
    • Vertical offset:      49
    • Rotation angle:      95
    • Scale factor:      32

      PATTERN SETTINGS

    • Number of columns:      19
    • Number of rows:      19
    • Horizontal shift:      -77 (minus)
    • Vertical shift:      -26 (minus)

  18. Effects, 3D effects, Inner Bevel and use the following settings:-

    • Pie Bevel
    • Width:      4
    • Smoothness:      0
    • Depth:      2
    • Ambience:      0
    • Shininess:      2
    • Color:      White
    • Angle:      315
    • Intensity:      50
    • Elevation:      30

  19. Deselect.

  20. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  21. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  22. Image, add border and add a 30 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  23. Using your magic wand, select the 30 pixel border.

  24. Edit, paste into selection.

  25. Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur and use a setting of 10.

  26. Deselect.

  27. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  28. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  29. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your foreground colour.

  30. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your background colour.

  31. Selections, select all.

  32. Selections, modify, contract, and contract by 8.

  33. Selections, invert.

  34. Effects, 3D Effects, Inner Bevel and use the same settings as before.

  35. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical & Horizontal:      5
    • Opacity:      85
    • Blur:      25
    • Color:      Black

  36. Repeat the drop shadow changing the vertical & horizontal to –5 (minus)

  37. Deselect.

  38. Image, resize and resize to a level you like for stationery.

  39. Adjust, Sharpness, Sharpen.

  40. Add a new layer for your watermark and then merge all, flatten.

    BACKGROUND

  41. Open the duplicated image.

  42. Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur and use a setting of 10.

  43. Click on your selection tool set to rectangle and draw a rectangle shape in the middle of your graphic, using about 65% of the graphic area.

  44. Selections, invert.

  45. Effects, Reflections, Patterns and use the following settings:-

      Image Area

    • Horizontal offset:      -75 (minus)
    • Vertical offset:      7
    • Rotation angle:      236
    • Scale factor:      48

      Pattern Settings

    • Number of columns:      14
    • Number of rows:      4
    • Horizontal shift:      -19 (minus)
    • Vertical shift:      46

  46. Deselect.

  47. Effects, Image Effects, Seamless tiling and use the following settings:-

    • Corner checked
    • Bidirectional checked
    • Horizontal & Vertical offsets:      0
    • Transition:      50
    • Linear selected.

    Lower the opacity to one suitable for text. You can now save this image as your background.
