LACE DIAMONDS


This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely co-incidental. Please do not copy, translate or place it on another site. You are more than welcome to use this tutorial in a group setting, but please link to this page only.

Tools needed to complete this tutorial:

Paint Shop Pro V8

A tube of your choice
The tube I have used here is used with permission from McHooii who has kindly allowed me to use her wonderful tubes in my tutorials.

Screenworks filter.


If you have everything you need, let's begin :)


  1. Open your tube of choice. Resize so that it is no wider than 350 pixels.

  2. Image, canvas size, and use the following settings:-

    • Width:     1024
    • Height:     Height of your tube
    • Placement:     Left middle arrow.

  3. Using your eye dropper tool, chose a nice light colour from your tube.

  4. Add a new layer and flood fill with the colour.

  5. Layers, arrange, send to bottom.

  6. Effects, Plugins, ScreenWorks, Lace Screen.

  7. Adjust, Softness, Soft focus and use the following settings:-

    • Softness:     50
    • Edge importance:     44
    • Include scattered light:     Checked
    • Amount:     50
    • Halo Size:     50
    • Halo visibility:     25

  8. Edit, repeat soft focus.

  9. Add a new layer. Layers, arrange, bring to top.

  10. Chose another colour with your eye dropper from the graphic for your foreground.

  11. Click on your pencil tool and use the following settings:-

    • Simple Mode checked
    • Drawing Mode checked
    • Line segments checked
    • Line style:     Diamonds
    • Width:     15

  12. Holding down your shift key, draw a line from the top to the bottom of the graphic, just a little to the right of your tube.

  13. Effects, Inner bevel and use the following settings:-

    • Pie Bevel
    • Width:      8
    • Smoothness:     2
    • Depth:     1
    • Ambience:     0
    • Shininess:     50
    • Color:     White
    • Angle:     315
    • Intensity:     43
    • Elevation:     35

  14. Layers, new raster layer.

  15. Draw the same line again, but this time make it 50 pixels from the top, and end it 50 pixels from the bottom. Draw it reasonably close to the other line. Because we have it on a new layer, you can shift it closer or further away once you are finished.

  16. Repeat the inner bevel.

  17. Effects, 3D Effects, drop shadow and apply the following settings:-

    • Vertical & Horizontal:     2
    • Opacity:     65
    • Blur:     5
    • Color:     Black
    • Shadow on new layer:     Unchecked.

  18. Click on the next layer down in the layer palette.

  19. Edit repeat drop shadow.

  20. Click on the next layer down in the layer palette.

  21. Edit, repeat drop shadow.

  22. Add a new layer. Layers, arrange, bring to top.

  23. Add your watermark.

  24. Merge all flatten.

    You can now take it into Letter Creator, a product that comes with IncrediMail.
