ICED SIDE BORDER



This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely co-incidental. Please do not copy, translate or place on any other site. You are more than welcome to use this tutorial in a group setting, but please link to this page only.


Tools needed to complete this tutorial:

Paint Shop Pro V 9

A graphic of your choice.
The photo used in this tutorial was from a group share. If you know the photographer, could you please advise so I can give proper credit, or remove if so wished.

  1. Open your graphic and resize so that it’s no wider than 350 pixels.

  2. Shift + D to duplicate the image and close the original.

  3. Right click in the layer palette and promote background layer.

  4. Again, in your layer palette, right click and duplicate.

  5. Using your dropper tool, chose a colour from your graphic for the background.

  6. Make sure the bottom layer is the active layer.

  7. Effects, Plugins, DC Special, Rain and use the following settings:-

    • Wind:      133
    • Rain:      255

  8. Highlight the top layer.

  9. Click on your selection tool with the following settings:-

    • Rounded rectangle
    • Feather:      25

  10. Draw a rounded rectangle out staying well away from the edges so the feather can take effect.

  11. Selections, invert.

  12. Hit the delete key.

  13. Merge visible.

  14. Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load Mask from disk and use the 2hootyedgemask making sure that invert transparency is checked.

  15. Layers, merge, merge group.

  16. Image, Canvas size and use the following settings:-

    • Width:      1024
    • Height:      Original height of graphic.
    • Placement:      Left middle arrow.

  17. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical:      0
    • Horizontal:      8
    • Opacity:      45
    • Blur:      4
    • Color:      Black
    • Shadow on new layer:      Unchecked.

  18. Add a new raster layer and drag it to the bottom of the layer palette.

  19. Flood fill with the colour your chose at the beginning of the tutorial.

  20. Effects, Plugins, Fantastic Machines, Paint Engine and use the following settings:-

      Brush:

    • Push Intensity:      .70
    • Lighten:      0
    • Bias:      -12 (minus)
    • Pull intensity:      .50
    • Lighten:      1.0
    • Bias:      .07

      Effect:

    • Amount:      1.22
    • Wrap Edge:      Unchecked

    • Type:      Saturation 1

    • Input & Line:      Unchecked

    • Length:      6
    • Radiate:      1.00
    • Motion Angle:      144
    • Curl:      -33 (minus)
    • Operation Angle:      72
    • Curl:      120

      Direction Channel:      R

  21. Add a new layer for your watermark.

  22. Merge all, flatten.

  23. Effects, Plugins, FM Tile Tools, Seamless Tiling and use the following settings:-

    • Border width:      0.160
    • Stretch control:      0.094
    • Vertical:      Checked.

    You can now put it together in Letter Creator.
