FRAMED CURL SIDE BORDER
This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely co-incidental. Please do not copy, translate or place on any other site. You are more than welcome to use this tutorial in a group setting, but please link to this page only.
Tools needed to complete this tutorial:
Corex XI
A graphic of your choice.
The graphic used in this tutorial was used as per TOU by the very talented AreYouMe Artist.

- Open your graphic of choice and resize so that it's no wider than 350 pixels.
- Right click in your layer palette and promote background layer.
- Right click again in your layer palette and duplicate your image twice. You now have three layers.
- Hide the top two layers, and make sure the bottom layer is the active layer.
- Effects, Reflection Effects, Rotating Mirror and use the following settings:-
- Horizontal offset: -50 (minus)
- Vertical offset: 0
- Rotation Angle: 315
- Edge Mode: Reflect.
- Open the middle layer and make sure it's the active layer.
- Hide the bottom layer.
- Effects, Reflection Effects, Rotating Mirror and use the following settings:-
- Horizontal offset: 50
- Vertical offset: 0
- Rotation Angle: 225
- Edge Mode: Reflect.
- Lower the opacity of this layer to 50%.
- Open the bottom layer. Only the top layer should now be closed. Making sure one of the open layers is the active one, merge visible.
- Duplicate the merged layer twice.
- Your top layer should still be hidden.
- Hide the bottom two layers, and make sure that Copy (2) of merged layer is the active layer.
- Effects, Reflection Effects, Rotating Mirror and use the following settings:-
- Horizontal offset: -50 (minus)
- Vertical offset: 0
- Rotation Angle: 45
- Edge Mode: Reflect.
- Hide this layer now, and open copy of merged layer and make it the active layer.
- Effects, Reflection Effects, Rotating Mirror and use the following settings:-
- Horizontal offset: 50
- Vertical offset: 0
- Rotation Angle: 135
- Edge Mode: Reflect.
- Lower the opacity of Copy (2) of merged layer to 50%.
- Lower the opacity of Copy of merged layer to 75%.
- Open your bottom layer. You now will again only have the top layer closed.
- Right click on one of the open layers, and merge visible.
- Effects, Image Effects, Seamless tiling and use the following settings:-
- Mirror checked.
- Bidirectional checked.
- Horizontal & Vertical: 0
- Width: 50
- Windows, duplicate the merged layer and minimize for now. This will be our background image later in the tutorial.
- Open the top layer and make it the active layer.
- Image, Resize and resize by 90%, all layers UNchecked.
- Effects, Image Effects, Page Curl and use the following settings:-
- Color: Use your eye dropper to pick a complimenting colour from your graphic.
- Radius: 63
- Width: 93
- Height: 87
- Edge Mode: Transparent
- Corner: Bottom right
- Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-
- Vertical & Horizontal: -1 (minus)
- Opacity: 60
- Blur: 5
- Color: White
- Shadow on new layer: UNchecked.
- Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-
- Vertical 3
- Horizontal &nsbp; 7
- Opacity: 60
- Blur: 5
- Color: Black
- Shadow on new layer: UNchecked.
- Merge visible.
- Image, Canvas size and use the following settings:-
- Width: 1250
- Height: Same height as your graphic.
- Placement: Left middle arrow.
- Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and use the same settings as our last drop shadow, but change your vertical to 0.
- In your colour palette, change your foreground to pattern and find the pattern that we minimized earlier.
- Add a new raster layer and drag to the bottom. Flood fill with your pattern.
- Effects, Distortion Effects, Ripple and use the following settings:-
- Horizontal & Vertical: 50
- Amplitude: 10
- Wavelength: 40
- Edge Mode: Transparent
- Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur and use a setting of 25.
- Effects, Image Effects, Seamless tiling and use the following settings:-
- Mirror checked.
- Bidirectional checked.
- Horizontal & Vertical: 0
- Width: 50
- Lower the opacity if needed and merge all, flatten.
- Selections, select all.
- Selections, modify, contract and contract by 2.
- Ctrl + C and then Ctrl + V.
This will stop the little space that sometimes occurs with the drop shadow when tiling the image in Letter Creator.
You can now put it all together.
