FEATHER COPY

This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely co-incidental. Please do not copy, translate or place on any other site. You are more than welcome to use this tutorial in a group setting, but please link to this page only.
Tools needed to complete this tutorial:
Paint Shop Pro V 9
A graphic of your choice
The graphic used in this tutorial is copyright to Viviane and is used as per the TOU.
Mura’s Meister
FM Tile tools (optional)
- Open your graphic and resize so that it’s no longer than 350 pixels.
- Shift + D twice to duplicate.
- Close the original and minimize one of the copies for now.
FRAME
- In your layer palette, right click and promote background layer.
- Chose your selection tool set to rectangle with a feather of 35.
- Draw your rectangle out to cover most of your graphic, allowing room for your feather.
- Shift + C to copy.
- Shift + V to paste as a new image.
- Minimize this new image for now.
- Back to our original and go to selections, invert.
- Effects, Mura’s Meister, Copies and use the following settings:-
- Shift Mode
- Tile Mode
- Blend Mode
Number: 5
- Shift X & Y: 50
- Angle, Rotation and Attenuation: 0
- Scale: 100
- Thru BG Range and Fade Out: 0
- All other settings should be greyed out.
- Effects, 3D Effects, Inner bevel and use the following settings:-
- Pie Bevel
- Width: 4
- Smoothness: 0
- Depth: 5
- Ambience: 0
- Shininess: 0
- Colour: Chose a colour from your graphic
- Angle: 315
- Intensity: 50
- Elevation: 30
- Deselect.
- Open the feathered copy of our graphic. Edit copy.
- Back to the graphic we are working on, edit, paste as new layer.
- Use your mover tool and move the pasted image upwards a little.
- You can now close the feathered graphic.
- Merge all, flatten.
- Image, Add border and add a 25 pixel white border.
- Select the border with your magic wand. Because we feathered our rectangle earlier, PSP should automatically pick up the feather with the magic wand.
- Effects, Plugins, Mura’s Meister and repeat the Copies settings used earlier.
- Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur and use a setting of 25.
- Deselect.
- Add a new layer for your watermark. Merge all flatten and save as a jpeg.
- You can close this graphic down now.
SIDE BORDER
- Right click in your layer palette and promote background layer.
- Using your Selection tool, same settings as before, and click on the custom selection button and use the following settings:-
- Top: 0
- Left: Starting point of a nice area of your graphic
- Right: Roughly 65 – 85 pixels past your starting point
- Bottom: Total length of your graphic
- Selections, promote selection to layer.
- Using your mover tool, move this promoted layer over to the left hand side of your graphic.
- Deselect.
- Selections, select all
- Selections, float
- Selections, defloat.
- Effects, Texture Effects, Blinds and use the following settings:-
- Width: 20
- Opacity: 45 (or less if your graphic is light)
- Color: Chose a colour from your graphic
- Horizontal: Unchecked
- Light from left/top: Checked
- Effects, 3D Effects, Drop shadow and use the following settings:-
- Vertical: 0
- Horizontal: 8
- Opacity: 65
- Blur: 10
- Colour: Black
- Deselect.
- Image, Canvas size and use the following settings:-
- Width: 1024
- Height: Total height of your graphic
- Placement: Left middle arrow.
- In your layer palette, click on your bottom layer.
- Click on your deform tool.
- Place your curser on the right middle node and drag the graphic out to cover the full length of your newly sized canvas.
- Click on any other tool to confirm the resizing.
- Adjust, Blur, Gaussian blur and use the same setting as before.
- Effects, Plugins, Mura’s Meister, Copies and use the same settings as before.
- Lower the opacity of this layer to one suitable for putting text onto.
Note: If you don’t have FM Tile Tools, proceed down to the finishing instructions in Red.
If you have FM Tile tools, continue from here.
- Merge all, flatten.
- Effects, Plugins, FM Tile Tools, Seamless Tiling and use the following settings:-
- Border Width: 0.168
- Stretch Control: 0.090
- Vertical: Checked
You are now ready to put it altogether in Letter Creator.
Make sure your bottom layer is the active layer.
Effects, Image Effects, Seamless Tiling and use the following settings:-
- Mirror checked
- Bidirection checked.
Merge all, flatten and you can now put this altogether in Letter creator.
