COLOURED EMBOSS BACKGROUND

This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely co-incidental. Please do not copy, translate or place on another site. You are more than welcome to use this tutorial in a group setting, but please link to the page only.

Tools needed to complete this tutorial:- PSP 9

A tube of your choice.
The tube I have used for this tutorial was from a group share. If you know the artist, please let me know so I can give proper credit.

No outside filters were used.

If you have everything you need, let's begin.

  1. Open your tube of choice and shift + D to duplicate it. Close the original.

  2. Resize the tube if needed.

  3. Image, Canvas size and use the following settings:-

    • Width:      1024
    • Length:      Total length of your tube
    • Placement:      Left middle arrow

  4. Using your eye dropper choose two complimenting colours for your foreground and background.

  5. In your colour palette change your foreground to gradient and using your dropdown list choose the foreground/background gradient set to 0 angle and 1 repeat.

  6. Right click in your layer palette and duplicate your tube.

  7. Right click in your layer palette and duplicate your tube again.

  8. Using your mover tool, move the duplicates over so that they are spaced evenly over the transparent 1024 image.

  9. Close layer 1 and making sure that one of the top two layers is active, right click and merge visible.

  10. Effects, Image Effects, Seamless Tiling and use the following settings:-

    • Corner checked
    • Bidirectional checked
    • Curved checked.

  11. You can now open all layers.

  12. Add a new layer and flood fill with your gradient.

  13. Layers, arrange, send to bottom.

  14. Lower the opacity of your bottom layer to around the 75% mark.

  15. Highlight your top layer.

  16. Effects, Texture Effects, Emboss.

  17. Lower the opacity of the merged layer to 14%.

  18. Highlight your middle layer.

  19. Effects, 3D Effects, drop shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical:      0
    • Horizontal:      12
    • Opacity:      45
    • Blur:      15
    • Color:      Black
    • Shadow on new layer:      Unchecked.

  20. Repeat the drop shadow changing the Horizontal to –12 (minus).

  21. Merge all, flatten.

  22. Click on your selection tool, and then on custom selection.

  23. Use the following settings:-

    • Top and Left:      0
    • Right:      350
      (If your tube was larger than this, change the setting to suit it).
    • Bottom:      Total length of your graphic.

  24. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the same settings as before but change the Horizontal to 8.

  25. Click on custom selection again, and change your Right figure to 340 (or 10 less than your original).

  26. Repeat the drop shadow.

  27. Click on custom selection again, and change your Right figure to 325 (or 15 less than your original).

  28. Repeat the drop shadow.

  29. Deselect.

  30. Selections, select all.

  31. Selections, modify, contract by 5.

  32. Image, crop to selection.

  33. Add a new layer for your watermark.

  34. Merge all flatten.
