The tube used in this tutorial was from a group share. If you are the original artist, please contact me so I can give proper credit, or remove if you so wish.

Filters Unlimited - Lens Effect Filters

I know longer give links to filters as the sites tend to change fairly regularly. If you do a Google search you will find links for downloading.


If you have everything you need, lets begin.

  1. Open a transparent image, 450 x 450 to give us plenty of room to work.

  2. Open your tube, edit copy.

  3. Paste as a new layer onto the transparent image. Resize if necessary.

  4. In your layer palette, duplicate the tube twice and name the layers from top to bottom:-

    • Tube 1
    • Tube 2
    • Tube 3
    • Background

  5. Make tube 3 the active layer.

  6. Image, resize and resize by 85%

  7. Make tube 2 the active layer.

  8. Edit, Repeat resize.

  9. Make tube 3 the active layer.

  10. Effects, Plugins, Lens Effect Filters, Chopper and use a setting of 68.

  11. Make tube 2 the active layer.

  12. Effects, Plugins, Lens Effect Filters, Chopper and use the same settings as above.

  13. Close all layers except tube 3.

  14. Using your mover tool, move this slightly up and towards the left.

  15. Close the tube 3 layer, and open tube 2.

  16. Using your mover tool, move this slightly down and to the right.

  17. In your layer palette, right click, View, All.

  18. Lower the opacity for tube 2 and tube 3 to roughly 35%

  19. Make tube 1 the active layer.

  20. Effects, 3D Effects, drop shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical:      1
    • Horizontal:      6
    • Opacity:      45
    • Blur:      5
    • Color:      Black
    • Shadow on new layer:      Unchecked.

  21. In your layer palette, select the background layer.

  22. Flood fill with a color from your graphic.

  23. Click on your selection tool and custom selection and use the following settings:-

    • Top:      150
    • Left:      0
    • Right:      450
    • Bottom:      300

  24. Add a new raster layer and drag this layer to just above the background layer.

  25. Flood fill with a complimenting colour from your tube.

  26. Effects, Texture Effects, Blinds and use the following settings:-

    • Width:      5
    • Opacity:      25
    • Colour:      Your original background colour
    • Horizontal:      Checked
    • Light from left/top:      Unchecked

  27. Unselect.

  28. In your layer palette, duplicate this layer.

  29. Image, Free Rotate and rotate by 90°, all layers Unchecked.

  30. Merge all, flatten.

  31. Resize to a suitable size for a header for your stat.

  32. Adjust, Sharpness, Sharpen.

  33. Image, add border and add a 1 pixel border using your darkest colour.

  34. Image, add border and add a 2 pixel border using your lightest colour.

  35. Image, add border and add a 1 pixel border using your darkest colour.

  36. Add a new raster layer for your watermark.

  37. Merge all, flatten.

  38. Add to a background of your chosing.

  39. You can now put it all together in Letter Creator.
