BITS & PIECES SIDE BORDER

Paint Shop Pro V 9

The mask that I used.

A graphic of your choice.
This graphic is used with permission from Christophe Vache who has kindly allowed me to use his wonderful work in my tutorials.

FM Tile Tools Optional


Ok, if you have everything you need, let's begin.


  1. Open your graphic in PSP.

  2. Resize your graphic so that it’s no wider than 350 pixels.

  3. Shift + D twice to duplicate. Close the original and minimize one of the copies for now.

  4. Right click in your layer palette and promote background layer.

  5. Layers, Load/Save Mask, Load mask from disc and using the drop down menu search for the mask c_rahmen7 you downloaded.

  6. Make sure that invert transparency is checked.

  7. Layers, Merge, merge group.

  8. Effects, 3D Effects, Inner Bevel and use the following settings:-

    • Pie Bevel
    • Width:      8
    • Smoothness:      2
    • Depth:      2
    • Ambience:      0
    • Shininess:      2
    • Color:      White
    • Angle:      357
    • Intensity:      40
    • Elevation:      35

  9. Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow and use the following settings:-

    • Vertical & Horizontal:      2
    • Opacity:      65
    • Blur:      2
    • Color:      Black
    • Shadow on new layer:      Unchecked.

  10. Maximize the 2nd copy of your graphic.

  11. Using your selection tool set to ellipse with a feather of 15, draw your ellipse shape out to cover a nice selection of your graphic.

  12. Edit, copy.

  13. Back to our masked image.

  14. Edit, paste as new layer.

  15. Use your mover tool to move your graphic and center it within the masked area. You should be overlapping a little both top and bottom.

  16. Add a new layer. Layers, arrange, send to bottom.

  17. Image, Canvas size and use the following settings:-

    • Width:      1024
    • Height:      Same height as your graphic + 20.
    • Placement:      Left middle arrow.

  18. Making sure that your background layer is the active layer, selections, select all.

  19. Go back to our minimized graphic. If you still have the feathered selection there, selections, select none.

  20. Edit, copy. You can now close this graphic off. We won’t be needing it again.

  21. Back to our framed graphic, edit, paste into selection.

  22. Selections, select none.

  23. Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur and use a setting of 25.

  24. Adjust, Add/Remove noise, Add noise and use a setting of 15.

  25. Lower the opacity of this layer if you like.

  26. Effects, Plugins, FM Tile Tools, Seamless tile and use the following settings:-

    • Border Width:      0.105
    • Stretch Control:      0.094
    • Vertical:      Checked

    Note: If you don’t have FM Tile tools, use the Seamless tile option in PSP.

  27. Add a new raster layer. Layers, arrange, bring to top.

  28. Add your watermark.

  29. Merge all, flatten.
